After qualifying as a professional Landscape Architect in England, Sue moved to Hong Kong.  For the next 20 years, she worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from town parks, housing, roof gardens, recreation, tourism and land-use planning.  Five projects were award-winning schemes.

In 1999, she moved to Canada, became a Canadian citizen and now lives in the beautiful coastal community of Yellow Point, south of Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. Active in the local community, Sue’s creativity is inspired by the area’s scenery, climate and vibrant arts scene. When not designing stunning gardens for her clients, Sue is a passionate gardener and spends much of her spare time with her hands in the soil. She also enjoys horse-riding, hiking, kayaking, and making glass art.

Here are some recommendations from just a few of Sue’s many delighted clients:

We have been delighted with the transformation you created in our garden, as have many of our friends. The follow-up care has been impressive.

Sue made our back yard such a wonderful retreat, we didn’t want to come inside! Our guests rave about how beautiful it is, and how nice is it to sit out there, revelling in the beauty. We spend all our free time out there now that Sue has transformed it from awful to delightful. It was amazing how quickly the job was done too, with little inconvenience to our neighbours or us.

--Bryan and Pat Denham, Ladysmith, BC

Sue's careful planning and selection of plants more then met our criteria for slope stabilization and screening and provided us with an attractive garden that we find easy to maintain. We’re pleased to recommend Garden Design By Sue Baran for anyone requiring landscaping.
